Voices of Resistance is a Video Project that aims to create a platform to give voice to refugees and provoke a critical and fundamental discussion in this society with a central question: Why and how can this society tolerate and accept the cruel treatment of people who are “othered” while living in this society?
Refugees have rich, valuable experiences and knowledge to share and from which the wider society can learn much more, but often, the forum to do so is missing. And even in forums where such exchanges could take place, there are often attempts to usurp refugee voice by “nice” supporters! Rather than aspire to have such conversations on equal/eye level, refugees are being looked down on because of all the negative connotations that comes with the “refugee” label.
No more!!! Refugees are here and will speak for themselves.

Voices of Resistance ist ein Videoprojekt, das eine Plattform schaffen will, um Refugees Gehör zu verschaffen und eine kritische und grundlegende Diskussion in dieser Gesellschaft mit einer zentralen Frage zu provozieren: Warum und wie kann diese Gesellschaft die grausame Behandlung von Menschen tolerieren und akzeptieren, die „ othered“ werden, also zu „anders“ definiert werden, während Sie in dieser Gesellschaft leben?
Refugees haben reiche, wertvolle Erfahrungen und Kenntnisse zu teilen, von denen die Gesellschaft viel mehr lernen kann, aber oft fehlt das Forum dafür. Und selbst in Foren, in denen ein solcher Austausch stattfinden könnte, gibt es oft Versuche, die Stimme von Refugees durch „nette“ Unterstützer*innen zu usurpieren! Anstatt solche Gespräche auf Augenhöhe zu führen, wird auf Refugees wegen all der negativen Konnotationen, die mit dem „Refugee“ ‑Label verbunden sind, herabgeschaut.
Nicht mehr!!! Refugees sind hier und werden für sich selbst sprechen.

The widespread dehumanisation, denigration and societal exclusion of refugees are rooted in racism. The Corona pandemic has again highlighted and brought it more to the surface as refugees were so obviously treated differently from the general populace.
Thus, the Corona pandemic has been a magnifying glass: Existing systemic failures and shortcomings have become ever more obvious. German laws and regulations as well as human rights as it relates to health were not applicable to refugees in this society.
It was this latent racism that brought us to the idea of this project. Therefore the first video clips and interviews deal with the situation in the mass accommodation for refugees and their treatment there.
However the project wants to cover a lot more themes about the situation of refugees in Bremen and Germany in general; the public reception/perception of and attitudes to refugees, the role of supporters, power relations and drug politics, what Solidarity means, the effects of Empowerment, the importance of Self organisation and much more…!!!
The Project is a no holds barred approach that will not shy away from the many contentious and controversial issues that affects refugees and migrants in this society. We will go there, even when others refuse to. We name it!!! And the debate starts.
Die weit verbreitete Entmenschlichung, Verunglimpfung und gesellschaftliche Ausgrenzung von Refugees wurzelt im Rassismus. Die Corona-Pandemie hat sie erneut hervorgehoben und an die Oberfläche gebracht, da Refugees offensichtlich anders behandelt wurden als die allgemeine Bevölkerung.
Somit war die Corona-Pandemie eine Lupe: Bestehende Systemfehler und ‑mängel sind immer offensichtlicher geworden. Die deutschen Gesetze und Vorschriften sowie die Menschenrechte in Bezug auf die Gesundheit waren für Flüchtlinge in dieser Gesellschaft nicht anwendbar.
Es war dieser latente Rassismus, der uns zur Idee dieses Projekts brachte. Daher befassen sich die ersten Videoclips und Interviews mit der Situation in der Massenunterkunft/Lagern für Refugees und ihrer Behandlung dort.
Das Projekt möchte jedoch viel mehr Themen zur Situation der Refugees in Bremen und Deutschland im Allgemeinen behandeln: die öffentliche Aufnahme / Wahrnehmung und Einstellung zu Refugees, die Rolle von Unterstützer*innen, Machtverhältnisse und Drogenpolitik, was Solidarität bedeutet, die Auswirkungen von Empowerment, die Bedeutung von Selbstorganisation und vieles mehr … !!!
Das Projekt greift alle möglichen Inhalte auf und scheut sich nicht, auch die vielen umstrittenen und kontroversen Themen, die Refugees und Migrant*innen in dieser Gesellschaft betreffen, zu thematisieren. Wir werden an die Schmerzpunkte gehen, auch wenn andere sich da verweigern. Wir benennen sie!!! Und die Debatte beginnt.
Es wird auch in dieser neuen ‘Normalität’ eine Plattform bleiben, wenn Corona einmal diese Sache aus der Vergangenheit sein sollte — wenn es das je sein wird.
